UCL: Van Dijk slams Liverpool’s defense after Fenerbahce defeat

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has criticized his team's defensive performance following their 3-2 loss to Fenerbahce in Istanbul. All three of Fenerbahce's goals came from set-pieces, marking the first time in Liverpool's history they have conceded at least three goals in three consecutive European matches. Van Dijk admitted that the defensive mistakes were unacceptable and insisted there was plenty of work to be done.

He particularly lamented his side's inability to deal with set-pieces, conceding all three goals in that manner. The defeat marked Liverpool's second consecutive loss under manager Andoni Iraola, following a five-game winning streak. Van Dijk believes this difficult period could strengthen the squad and build a stronger team bond, emphasizing the importance of learning from setbacks.

Liverpool will travel to Crystal Palace in the Premier League this weekend, aiming to return to winning ways.
