Eric Chelle, the head coach of the Super Eagles, has received encouraging news as Rangers defender Emmanuel Fernandez is expected to return to training soon after recovering from an ankle injury. The 24-year-old Nigerian center-back sustained the injury during Rangers' 1-0 victory over Aberdeen in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final at Hampden Park on Saturday.
Initially, concerns arose regarding Fernandez's availability for Rangers' Scottish Premiership match against St Mirren the following weekend. However, Rangers manager Derek McInnes has provided reassurance, stating that Fernandez should be fit to train and play in the upcoming match. This positive development will undoubtedly alleviate some of the pressure on Chelle as he prepares to announce his squad for Nigeria's crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Tanzania.
Nigeria is set to host Tanzania at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on November 13, with the return match scheduled for November 17.
