Scotty Pippen Jr. gets positive injury update amid uncertain status

The Memphis Grizzlies have started the 2023-24 regular season with a strong 6-1 record. However, their star point guard Scotty Pippen Jr. has been sidelined with a back injury. Pippen was officially ruled out for their upcoming game against the Indiana Pacers, but Grizzlies head coach Tuomas Iisalo remains optimistic about his recovery.

Iisalo shared that Pippen's status could range from day-to-day to week-to-week, and he has managed to avoid a more severe injury. Pippen has missed two straight games now, having played in only the first five games of the season. He averaged 6.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.0 steals per game during that stretch, shooting 42.3% from the field, 22.2% from three, and 80% from the free-throw line.

Pippen last appeared on October 29 during the Grizzlies' win over the Portland Trail Blazers, scoring two points in 14 minutes. The former Vanderbilt product is now in his fourth season with the Grizzlies, signed to a four-year deal after starting as a two-way player in the 2023-24 season.
