Russell Brand Found Guilty of Rape, Sexual Assault With ‘A Significant Custodial Term’

Russell Brand has been found guilty by a U.K. jury on charges of rape and sexual assault. The verdict, which came after a trial that began in October, mandates a significant custodial sentence for the comedian. Justice Bennathan announced that a custodial term is inevitable due to the guilt verdict on count six. The sentencing hearing is set for Monday at London's Southwark Crown Court.

Brand had initially pleaded not guilty to all seven charges. However, he was acquitted of two other counts of rape and one count of attempted indecent assault. Initially, he faced five counts of rape and sexual assault against four women in April 2025, followed by two additional counts of rape and sexual assault in December 2025.

The investigation into Brand started in September 2023 after his alleged victims came forward with claims of incidents allegedly occurring between 2006 and 2013. Two more recent charges were filed in December 2025, alleging incidents from 2009.

Throughout the trial, Brand maintained his innocence, stating in a video message that he was a "fool" who indulged in drugs and sex before finding his faith. His wife, Laura Gallacher, attended the verdict hearing.
