Railway platform ticket at these stations
Northern Railway is taking extra precautions to manage crowds at major stations in Delhi-NCR during the Diwali, Bhai Dooj, and Chhath holidays. To prevent overcrowding, they have suspended the sale of platform tickets at six key stations until November 14. Only passengers with confirmed train tickets will be allowed on platforms during this period.
The six affected stations are New Delhi, Old Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal, Anand Vihar Halt, and Ghaziabad railway station. Platform tickets will not be available through ticket counters, mobile applications, or automatic ticket vending machines.
Elderly people, women, and persons with disabilities, along with their assistants, will still receive help boarding trains. In addition to the six stations, a permanent passenger holding area has been created at New Delhi railway station on the Ajmeri Gate side to manage passenger flow. At this holding area, baggage scanners and Railway Protection Force personnel help regulate passenger movement before entering platforms. This area complements the Yatri Suvidha Kendra, a 6,000-square-meter facility inaugurated last year.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that around 18,000 special trains will operate during the festive season, up from approximately 12,000 last year. These special trains, along with expanded facilities at major stations and improved crowd management measures, aim to handle the increased travel demand during Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath.
