The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has announced plans for an exclusive farewell ceremony to honor Cristiano Ronaldo upon his retirement from international football. The federation expressed admiration for the superstar forward, reiterating that he will forever hold a special place in Portuguese football. In a statement on Thursday via their X account, the FPF conveyed its gratitude for Ronaldo's exceptional contributions to the national team throughout his illustrious career.

Ronaldo, currently 41 years old, concluded his international career with an impressive tally of 146 goals in 234 appearances for Portugal. This positions him as the country's leading goalscorer in men's international football history. His remarkable record includes being instrumental in Portugal's successful campaigns in the 2016 European Championship, as well as leading the national team to victory in the inaugural UEFA Nations League in 2019 and the 2025 edition.

Beyond the numerous accolades, Ronaldo's deep commitment to Portugal played a pivotal role in shaping the nation's football landscape, inspiring generations of players and fans alike. His illustrious career spans from his senior debut in 2003 with Sporting until his move to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia. Despite his retirement from international play, Ronaldo remains determined to reach a total of 1,000 official career goals, having already scored 985, as per the latest accounting of his career.

The FPF's meticulously planned farewell ceremony will offer Portugal an occasion to celebrate the extraordinary legacy left by one of its most revered football icons. The federation's heartfelt message, "This will always be your home," underscores Ronaldo's enduring bond with Portugal, emphasizing that his cherished connection to the country will persist even after his departure from international football.
