MRT Corp anugerah kontrak RM2.69 bilion LRT Laluan Mutiara
Pakej Kontrak Utama Sivil 2 liputi jajaran lanjutan dari Lebuh Macallum di bahagian pulau Pulau Pinang ke Penang Sentral di Butterworth.
Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) has awarded the RM2.69 billion Main Civil Contract 2 (CMC2) package to a consortium comprising China Communications Construction Company, TRC Construction Sdn Bhd, and Ufuk Semarak Sdn Bhd for the Laluan Mutiara Penang Link project. This 5.5km railway extension from Lebuh Macallum to Penang Sentral in Butterworth includes a 3.05km sea bridge, enabling navigation for ships to pass through the area for the Port of Perai and Butterworth.
MRT Corp stated that the remaining portion of the railway will create a continuous rail link between the island of Pulau Pinang and the mainland of Perai, benefiting the communities on both sides of the strait. The travel time between Komtar and Penang Sentral is expected to be around eight minutes, providing a convenient alternative for commuters traveling between the island and mainland.
The LRT Laluan Mutiara project currently has 22 stations completed, accounting for 16% of the total project. Progress on the project is on schedule, according to the project's track manager. The Laluan Mutiara Penang Link was initially projected to commence operations by 2031.
