Know your foe Miami: Notre Dame needs to contain these Hurricanes

All eyes are on Notre Dame football for the upcoming week as they face off against the top-ranked Miami Hurricanes in South Bend. Currently sitting at #11 in the College Football Playoff rankings, Notre Dame knows they must secure a win over the No. 1 team to have any hope of cracking the top-12. Though some may question the fairness of the rankings, the Irish must rely on their own performance to determine their fate.

Miami's offense is a force to be reckoned with, boasting several talent-filled players that Notre Dame will need to contain. Wide receiver Malachi Toney is expected to miss 4-6 weeks due to an ankle injury, leaving Notre Dame with a significant advantage. Defensive end Marquise Lightfoot has been outstanding on the run defense, and running backs Mark Fletcher Jr. and Javian Mallory have proven themselves as key players for Miami.

Miami's defensive line features promising talent, including Damon Wilson II, who has racked up 2.5 sacks this season. Another standout is true freshman SAF JJ Dunnigan, a long and skilled cornerback who has already made an impact with 37 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, recovery, and an interception for a touchdown. Quarterback Darian Mensah, who has played for Tulane, Duke, and Miami, is a highly skilled and promising asset for the Hurricanes.

To secure a win against Miami, Notre Dame's defense must focus on slowing down the Hurricanes' running game and limiting their passing opportunities. The Irish will need to be mindful of their offensive strategy, taking advantage of any weaknesses they can find in Miami's defense. With a top-ranked opponent on the line, the Irish will be looking to prove their worth and secure their spot in the playoff race.
