Mumbai: JW Global Company has announced a significant infrastructure project at Maharashtra's Ujani Dam, featuring a 2,000 MW floating solar power plant, a 1,800 MW battery energy storage system (BESS), and a 1,400 MW AI and high-performance computing (HPC) data center. This initiative, part of the Sustainable Eco-Enterprise District (SEED), aims to create an integrated green energy and digital technology ecosystem, meeting India's increasing demand for sustainable computing infrastructure.
The project is designed to be phased, starting with a 500 MW initial phase, with the full 1,400 MW data center capacity to be achieved by 2031, pending necessary clearances. Sanjay Waje, JW Group's Director of Operations, highlighted the project's commitment to technological advancement, responsible resource management, and regional economic development.
The project aims for an annual water consumption of 0.50 TMC, using advanced closed-loop liquid cooling and a zero liquid discharge system to minimize water usage and prevent wastewater discharge into the reservoir. Approximately 91% of the reservoir's surface will remain outside the solar installation. JW Global anticipates creating about 2,800 permanent jobs and around 40,000 direct and indirect positions in areas such as engineering, cybersecurity, renewable energy operations, and technology services.
The company also plans to introduce healthcare, scholarships, digital education, and skill development programs in Bhimanagar. Mark Bailie, Global Director at JW Global, noted that the initiative could bolster India's position in sustainable AI infrastructure while fostering long-term regional growth.
