INEC not the problem, call your people working there to order - Aisha Yesufu tells Nigerians

Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has asserted that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is not the root cause of Nigeria's election issues, but rather the individuals working within the commission. In a widely shared social media post, Yesufu urged Nigerians to stop pointing fingers at institutions and instead take personal responsibility.

She emphasized that these people are not outsiders, but rather part of the Nigerian community. Yesufu stated that similar failures are occurring in other crucial institutions, including the police, military, and judiciary, not due to inherent flaws in these entities, but because of the people who oversee them. She argued that despite having excellent laws and structures in place, the system will continue to fail if the personnel operating them are unwilling to act appropriately.

Yesufu highlighted that Nigerians must stop the pretense that problems stem from external sources when, in fact, those undermining the system are indeed Nigerians. She called upon leaders, politicians, families, and communities to assume accountability and demand that their own people behave responsibly, rather than relying on criticisms of institutions.
