GFA does not interfere in Black Stars player call up – GFA president Kurt Okraku

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has denied allegations that the association interferes with player selections for the Black Stars, stating that the responsibility lies solely with the national team’s technical handlers. Okraku addressed concerns about the GFA’s alleged influence during a parliamentary hearing on November 4, insisting that the association’s Executive Council does not dictate which players are called up by the coaching staff.

He emphasized that the GFA does not take part in selecting players, explaining that if they were involved, one of the executives would have publicly acknowledged it. The GFA president further affirmed that the technical team is solely responsible for all technical decisions, including the selection of players for international tournaments.

The Black Stars are gearing up for a double-header against Somalia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with both matches set to be played at the Essipong Sports Stadium. Ghana faces pressure to secure maximum points following their recent losses to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, which have left them without any points in Group C.
