From Delhi to Dubai: How police tracked down a rape accused, secured extradition

The Delhi Police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) over the alleged circulation of child sexual abuse material (CSEAM) on Meta platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. The Special Cell under the Delhi Police initiated the FIR on October 8 under Sections 67 and 67B of the Information Technology Act, 2000. These sections deal with publishing or transmitting obscene material and material depicting children in sexually explicit acts or conduct in electronic form.

A complaint reported approximately 10 links related to the alleged circulation of such material. The police are currently investigating the allegations to verify their credibility. Meanwhile, NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo confirmed the registration of the FIR via a post on X. The Special Cell is handling the matter and conducting a thorough investigation.
