Cork’s ArrayPatch raises €3.2m for its dissolving GLP-1 patches
ArrayPatch was founded by Dr Waleed Faisal, a formulation scientist with a PhD from University College Cork. 2m for its dissolving GLP-1 patches
Cork-based biotech ArrayPatch has secured an additional €1.6 million in seed funding to advance its dissolving GLP-1 patches for obesity and diabetes. Founded by Dr Waleed Faisal, a University College Cork (UCC) PhD in pharmaceuticals graduate, ArrayPatch spun out from the university in 2024. The fresh capital brings the total raised to €3.2 million and will be used to move DerMap, ArrayPatch’s microneedle patch, into its first human trials.
The patch, made entirely from medicine without the need for polymers, boasts a higher drug load than conventional methods. The seed funding round saw participation from climate-focused Irish venture capital firm WakeUp Capital, venture crowdfunding platform Spark Venture Funding, existing investors Lakeside Capital and DeepIE Ventures, University College Dublin medicine professor Dr Mark Ledwidge, Enterprise Ireland, and The Boole Investment Syndicate.
ArrayPatch is also exploring treatments for skin cancer and nail fungus, with collaborations currently underway with Rinn Pharma & Biopharma. ArrayPatch's CEO, Dr Faisal, aims to leverage the technology to provide a patient-friendly approach to delivering GLP-1 medicines, emphasizing the start-up's potential to make a significant global impact by addressing environmental and safety concerns associated with traditional injection methods.
