Cocaine busts: Owners of some consignments standing trial – Akwatia MP

The Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Bernard Baidoo Bediako, has revealed that individuals believed to be owners of some cocaine consignments seized in Ghana are currently standing trial at various courts. Bediako debunked claims that only couriers or individuals in possession of the drugs are being prosecuted, emphasizing that some of the alleged owners are also facing trial.

The trials are taking place at the Kwabenya Court and the Accra High Court, with different individuals appearing in each, he noted, without divulging the identities due to the ongoing legal proceedings.

Bediako argued that apprehending individuals found with illegal drugs is a crucial step in investigations, as it can help authorities identify and locate the masterminds behind trafficking operations. He explained that without capturing the person in possession of the drugs, it becomes challenging to progress with the investigation.

Bediako further disclosed that he possesses information about some of the individuals facing trial, but refrained from publishing their names as the allegations are still unproven in court. He described the individuals as "men," highlighting that the court proceedings are in their early stages and the allegations have not yet been established.

Bediako's remarks come amid discussions on whether investigations into recent cocaine seizures focus sufficiently on the financiers and organizers of drug trafficking operations.
