Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 composer says multiplayer music is usually 'an afterthought' and 'cobbled together' from existing campaign music — 'This is the first time we've specifically composed a score of this scale for multiplayer'

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 composer Jason Graves revealed that multiplayer music in the game is often an afterthought, typically cobbled together from existing campaign tunes. This is the first time the multiplayer experience has received a full score, Graves stated in an interview with TechRadar Gaming.

Graves explained that the best soundtrack for any game should inspire and elevate the core gameplay ideas. For Modern Warfare 4, the composer created discrete tracks for various aspects of multiplayer, including lobbies, countdowns, streaks, and after-action reports. He emphasized that multiplayer has a distinct vibe compared to the campaign, and aimed to capture the forward momentum and adrenaline of the game.

The Call of Duty composer highlighted that his primary goal is to motivate and excite players throughout a multiplayer match, whether before, during, or after a match. He sought to pump up players, ready them for action, and celebrate their victories with a powerful beat. Graves noted that the Modern Warfare soundtracks have an incredible history and he is honored to have contributed to two of them.

He believes that the best soundtrack for a game enhances the gameplay experience, and for Modern Warfare, the music should amplify the player's immersion and excitement.
