Börsen: Dax steigt auf Rekordhoch - Dann folgt Ernüchterung

The Dax index reached a record high today, surpassing the August peak of 26,618.74 points, thanks to the US midterms. Investors were initially buoyed by the prospect of a more moderate foreign policy from the Democratic-controlled US government. The Democratic Party's clear victory in the House and Senate also lifted the US Dow Jones Industrial Average.

Positive company data and falling oil prices further supported the Dax. However, the index soon started losing momentum as investors turned defensive due to growing turbulence in US markets, coupled with declining AI stock prices and Rheinmetall shares. By the end of the trading day, the Dax fell by 0.43 percent to 26,325.01, and the MDax lost 0.92 percent to 30,891.56.

Analysts noted that the Dax's subsequent decline was part of the normal reaction to the election euphoria. They pointed out that investors should remain cautious, considering ongoing uncertainties regarding inflation, interest rates, and the AI issue that could dim the market's outlook. Despite Trump's electoral victory, his power remained significant due to his veto power and the difficulty of overriding a veto with a two-thirds majority in both houses of Congress.
