Black voters help propel Democrats, including history makers, in sweeping midterm victories

The Democratic Party's historic electoral victory has cast a spotlight on the party's ability to translate this momentum into effective governance. Laurie Dundon, a Senior Associate Fellow at the European Leadership Network and former US diplomat, highlights the challenge of coalescing the party's diverse ideological factions, particularly the ongoing ideological struggle between its progressive and centrist wings.

Despite the apparent disintegration of Donald Trump's 2024 MAGA coalition, Dundon warns against viewing Trump as a diminished figure, emphasizing that he is unlikely to cease his influence. The ensuing battle over congressional spending, presidential vetoes, tariffs, and investigations is set to be a complex and closely watched dynamic.
