Karachi, Pakistan experienced a tragic incident on Thursday when the roof of a corner shop collapsed near the New Nazimabad Flyover, resulting in at least one fatality and multiple injuries, according to rescue services. Rescue 1122’s Chief Operating Officer, Dr Abid Shaikh, revealed that the incident took place during ongoing construction work at the shop.

Three victims were successfully recovered from the debris and transported to a nearby hospital, while others are believed to be trapped under the rubble. The deceased victim, a 43-year-old man, was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Search and rescue operations are currently underway to locate and rescue any remaining individuals.

Edhi ambulances and volunteers were present at the scene to assist with the emergency response. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the unfortunate event and ordered rapid rescue operations to clear the debris. CM Murad has also requested a report from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to determine the cause of the accident and investigate any potential negligence involved.
