Andy Weir says his sci-fi audio drama 'Exoplanet' is a way to 'revive the old art of radio plays' (interview)

In an exclusive interview, Andy Weir, the author behind the successful novel Project Hail Mary, is set to launch a new Audible Original release titled Exoplanet on November 5, 2026. This ambitious full-cast audiobook drama, executive produced by Weir himself, features an all-star cast including Anthony Mackie, Ariana DeBose, and John Leguizamo.

The story revolves around a seven-episode time-travel space disaster, with each surviving crew member crash-landing on the same deadly exoplanet in different eras, hunted, alone, and running out of time. Weir, known for his work on The Martian, has expressed a desire to revive the old art of radio plays, creating full-cast productions with sound effects and immersive acoustic elements.

This ambitious project is a testament to the growing popularity and potential of audio storytelling in the modern era.
