After JD Vance, now Trump Jr blames Iran war for US midterms defeat

Many Latinos who once supported Donald Trump because of his promise to lower prices have since turned against him in the midterms. The reason for this shift is his failure to deliver on his pledges and his aggressive stance against immigration, which often disproportionately affects Latinos. From Texas to California and beyond, a significant number of Latinos voted for Democrats, marking the largest-ever Latino turnout in a US midterm election.

Janet Murguia, president of UnidosUS, attributed this change in voting behavior to the Latino voters' anger and concern over the country's direction, particularly regarding Trump's immigration policies and the intense crackdown by ICE. Younger US-born Latinos, who identify strongly with their parents' heritage, also found it unacceptable to witness the ICE raids and deportations of millions.

One Latino referred to as a "no sabo" expressed disappointment that it took such a drastic event to motivate them to vote. Democrats overwhelmingly won among Latinos, with exit polls showing a 30-percentage-point gap between the two parties. In Texas, Latino voters played a crucial role in electing Gina Hinojosa as the state's first Latina governor, while in California, Xavier Becerra, with Mexican roots, was elected as governor.

Hinojosa credited her abuela's advice to "don't let yourself be pushed around" for inspiring the Latino victory. She emphasized that the win belonged to both the current generation and their ancestors. Among young Latinos aged 18 to 29, 70% voted for Democratic candidates for the House, according to CIRCLE, a research center at Tufts University.

In Florida, despite the blue wave, Republicans narrowly held onto power. Viviana Castro, a 67-year-old retiree from Venezuela, expressed her pride in voting against Trump, condemning his treatment of immigrants as unethical and immoral.
