Sack NACOC, GACL bosses over drug trafficking failures – Nana B

The newly elected National Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has called for the dismissal of the leadership of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) and the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) over what he describes as their failure to prevent the movement of cocaine through Ghana.

Sack NACOC, GACL bosses over drug trafficking failures – Nana B

Henry Nana Boakye, the National Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for the removal of key leaders from the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) and the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) due to their inability to prevent drug trafficking in the country. Mr Boakye made these demands during a press conference organised by the NPP, criticizing the institutions for failing to secure Ghana's borders and entry points, effectively turning the nation into a transit hub for international drug cartels.

Mr Boakye accused the heads of NACOC and GACL, from the commission's director to their security chiefs, of allowing cocaine to move through Ghana. He pointed out the recent arrest of a Syrian national in Beirut, Lebanon, who attempted to transport around 40 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine from Ghana, citing this as evidence of the institutions' failures.

"The head of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), the leadership there, they must go. Ghana Airports Company Limited, they must go, the leadership there, from the MD to the head of security, they must all leave," Mr Boakye stated.

The criticism extends to the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and National Security, whose roles are to keep drugs out of Ghana's ports and airports. Boakye argued that under their watch, Ghana has become a favored location for drug cartels, a claim supported by another recent international cocaine seizure involving nearly 3.9 tonnes of suspected cocaine intercepted at the Port of Dunkirk in France in September.

"The Ghana Port and Harbours Authority and National Security are in charge with keeping cocaine out of our ports, our airports and our country. On their watch, Ghana has become the transit hub for international cartels. Ghana has become a haven. Ghana has become a very favourable zone for drug cartels. For drug barons," he emphasized.

Mr Boakye also blamed President John Dramani Mahama for not taking decisive action against the officials involved, further demanding their dismissal. His comments come amid increasing concerns over repeated international cocaine seizures linked to Ghana.
