Maya Hawke Gets ‘Key’ Role in Live-Action Magic: The Gathering Movie
Maya Hawke has been cast in a ‘key’ role for Legendary’s live-action Magic: The Gathering movie, which is also planned to have a television series.
Maya Hawke has secured a significant role in Legendary's upcoming live-action Magic: The Gathering movie. According to sources cited by Deadline, the Stranger Things star has been officially cast, marking the first actor to be officially attached to the project. The movie, which also includes a television series, is set to feature an ensemble cast, much like other recent Epic franchises.
Canadian filmmaker Matt Johnson, known for his work on BlackBerry and Nirvanna the Band the Show, will direct and write the film. The project has been in development for years, with various iterations and failed attempts since Hasbro and Universal tried to make a movie based on the game in 2008. The latest news comes after Hasbro and Legendary announced their partnership in 2025, with Johnson's involvement confirmed in July 2026, alongside storyboard artists, costume designers, and location scouts from Dune.
