Leak TruStream review: a gifted network audio player that just lacks a bit of dynamic headroom
For the TruStream, Leak has hidden a whole lot of cutting-edge digital audio functionality in what looks like a piece of audio equipment from the swinging sixties
The TruStream network audio player, recently leaked, is a modern version of a 20th-century modern retro design. This sleek walnut and aluminium device boasts wired and wireless connectivity, balanced and unbalanced analogue outputs, and a top-tier 32-bit ESS Sabre DAC. In addition, it offers streaming through the Silent Angel platform.
The control app could benefit from improvements, but the TruStream delivers an expansive and detailed listening experience, excelling in both soundstage layout and rhythm description. However, its high-frequency information handling and dynamic headroom leave some room for improvement. Priced at $1,499 / £999 / AU$2,199, the TruStream is a visually unique offering in a crowded market, but its shortcomings may deter some potential buyers.
