Lazzaro One lands pre-seed funding to advance maritime intelligence technology

Berlin-based startup Lazzaro One has successfully raised a six-figure pre-seed investment from IBB Ventures' pre-seed fund, B#. The financial backing will fuel the development of Lazzaro One's maritime intelligence platform, HUAX, and the company's expansion in technology and commerce. Co-founded by Arsenio Longo and Maria Grazia Del Prete, Lazzaro One specializes in software solutions that enhance safety, operational efficiency, and sustainability within the maritime sector.

The platform's core innovation lies in its use of mathematical models, data analytics, and behavioral psychology to decipher complex vessel activity patterns and potential risks. Maritime operations generate immense data streams, yet discerning trustworthy information from the noise poses a significant challenge. Conventional monitoring systems can flag irregular vessel behavior, but understanding the root cause requires additional scrutiny.

Lazzaro One's HUAX aims to bridge this gap by scrutinizing technical and behavioral patterns to detect anomalies and deliver actionable insights for maritime operations. Instead of merely processing vast data quantities, HUAX concentrates on pinpointing information pertinent to risk evaluation and decision-making. One noteworthy application is the detection of "shadow fleets," vessels that manipulate tracking systems to circumvent sanctions.

By examining technical and behavioral irregularities, HUAX aims to assist security agencies, shipping firms, and insurers in identifying potential threats.

Beyond risk assessment, HUAX offers route forecasts and sea-state analyses to facilitate operational planning, increased efficiency, and environmentally friendly practices. The startup's team stresses that while numerous systems can detect unusual vessel behavior, only HUAX can elucidate the underlying reasons behind such deviations.

With the recent funding, Lazzaro One intends to bolster its operations by expanding its Berlin headquarters and establishing a dedicated Maritime Intelligence Desk in Naples. The company will also bolster its development team, create specialized roles, and further refine HUAX's data-processing capabilities. Looking ahead, Lazzaro One aims to solidify its position within the shipping and defense domains while broadening its clientele across the maritime and insurance sectors.
