On November 3, 2026, the Ghana Police Service apprehended three Nigerians suspected of involvement in a criminal syndicate responsible for several bank robberies in Kumasi and surrounding areas. Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo of the Ashanti Regional Police Command informed the public about the arrests in a statement.
The operation, initiated based on intelligence, took place around 11:30 pm on October 31. Police officers, including those from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the CID Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, conducted the raid. They recovered GH¢1,600, multiple mobile phones, a Royal motorcycle, and a master key used to gain unauthorized access to bank customers' vehicles.
Aboy Promise, aged 30, and Favour Uwalaka, aged 45, were arrested at a hotel in Moshie Zongo during a search of their rooms. During questioning, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the robberies and identified two accomplices, Chinedu, known as Alhaji, and Kingsley, known as KC. Kingsley was subsequently arrested at another hotel in Dechemso, a suburb of Kumasi. Chinedu, alias Alhaji, remains at large.
Prior to the arrests, the suspects reportedly monitored banking premises, identified high-value customers, trailed them, and then attacked and robbed them. They also used a master key to break into unattended vehicles belonging to bank customers to steal cash. The suspects admitted to robbing a customer of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong after the victim withdrew money from Kwamang Rural Bank on October 27.
They also admitted to similar robberies at At Ossu branch of Fidelity Bank, Ahodwo branch of Access Bank, and other locations within Kumasi and its environs.
