VALCO records $1.3 million EBITDA as management drives major operational turnaround

VALCO Turns the Corner: $1.3M EBITDA Signals Major Operational Recovery

VALCO records $1.3 million EBITDA as management drives major operational turnaround

The Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO) has returned to profitability, reporting a $1.4 million positive Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) for the first nine months of 2026. This marks a significant improvement from the $13.08 million negative EBITDA recorded during the same period in 2025.

The financial turnaround was driven by increased revenue and strategic production changes. VALCO's revenue grew by 13% to $103.85 million, compared to $91.78 million in 2025. The company's Chief Executive Officer, Dr Robert Makila Sambian, revealed these figures on November 3, 2026, during a Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources event showcasing industrial progress in Ghana.

Dr Sambian highlighted the successful operation of VALCO's Continuous Casting and Rolling (CCR) Electrical Grade Rod Mill. This facility transforms primary liquid aluminium into high-grade electrical rods for both domestic industrial use and export to European markets. The company's shift towards value-added aluminium manufacturing, rather than solely exporting primary aluminium, is bolstering local industry and generating foreign exchange earnings.

VALCO implemented a 1:4:4 shift system to maintain 24/7 operations at the CCR facility, enhancing production and reducing worker fatigue. This operational strategy also created more job opportunities. With a workforce expansion from 785 to 848 employees between December 2025 and October 2026, VALCO anticipates that full potline capacity restoration and downstream manufacturing growth could boost direct employment to 1,500 while sustaining over 6,000 indirect jobs across the nation.

The company is also investing in its infrastructure, adding 16 lift trucks, two payloaders, two melting furnaces, a centrifuge system, mobile crushing equipment, cranes, and natural gas piping infrastructure. Additionally, VALCO secured 5,000 metric tonnes of imported carbon anodes to further expand its reduction cells to a projected 150 units.

The company is on track to reach 98 active reduction cells by the end of October 2026, with further production capacity and employment growth expected as it continues to restore its potlines and expand downstream manufacturing.
