Police uncover fake dollar factory in Ondo, arrest one

The Ondo State Police Command in Nigeria has discovered a suspected counterfeit currency production facility in Odigbo Local Government Area, arresting one individual and seizing three bags of suspected fake US dollars. The operation, conducted on October 29 in Kiniso Village, was initiated after a complaint from a man who received counterfeit dollars during a currency exchange transaction.

The complainant, Yusuf Nasiru, informed the police on October 28 that two men, Peter Desmond and Olami Toro, had approached him to exchange $6,000 (approximately ₦8.6m) for naira. Upon examination, the complainant discovered the notes were counterfeit, leading him to report the incident. Upon receiving the complaint, police from Okitipupa Divisional Headquarters began an investigation, eventually tracking one suspect to Kiniso Village.

During the raid, the suspect was apprehended, while others fled. Three bags of suspected counterfeit US dollars and a small wooden box were recovered. The arrested suspect provided additional information to aid the investigation. State Police Commissioner CP Felix Ohagwu ordered intensified efforts to identify and apprehend other suspects linked to the operation, ensuring those culpable face justice.

Residents are advised to verify foreign currencies before accepting them in transactions and report suspicious activities to the police.
