Mike McCarthy is getting the last laugh on everyone who doubted the Steelers
A funny thing happened on the way to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ funeral that all your favorite talking heads planned during the offseason – Mike McCarthy kept winning. Because all Mike McCarthy has done in his career as a head coach is win. He did it for 13 years as the head coach of the Green […]
Mike McCarthy has proven his critics wrong by continuing to lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to success. After a long career as head coach of the Green Bay Packers, where he won 135 games and won the Super Bowl in 2010, McCarthy took a gap year before landing with the Dallas Cowboys. While with Dallas, he led the team to the playoffs three times and coached a 12-win season from 2021-23.
The Cowboys, however, eventually let McCarthy's contract expire. McCarthy then took another gap year, but as the Steelers struggled, McCarthy returned to take the helm of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025. The Steelers have since turned their fortunes around, with their offense ranking seventh in EPA per play and their defense tying for fifth in the league in total defense.
Star running back Jaylen Warren has emerged as a key player, leading all running backs in total EPA. Despite heavy criticism when McCarthy was hired, the Steelers are currently atop the AFC North with a 6-2 record and first in the conference in total points scored. McCarthy's decision has evidently paid off for the Steelers.
