Mahama arrives in Antigua for 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting

President John Dramani Mahama touched down in Antigua on Monday for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) scheduled for 2026. This biennial summit, presided over by His Majesty King Charles III, brings together leaders, ministers, business magnates, and advocates from civil society and youth groups to deliberate on shared goals and explore avenues for collaboration.

For President Mahama, this marks his inaugural appearance at the CHOGM following his re-election in December 2024. The thematic focus of this year's gathering is "Accelerating Partnership and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth," emphasizing the imperative to fortify alliances, attract capital, and foster sustainable economic expansion and shared prosperity throughout the Commonwealth.

During his two-day stay in St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, Mahama is slated to interact with fellow Commonwealth leaders on matters concerning economic synergy, commerce, capital infusion, and sustainable development. Additionally, he is set to engage in private discussions with several heads of state and government, underscoring the meeting's role as a pivotal forum for Commonwealth leaders to tackle global and regional predicaments, fortify diplomatic ties, and champion collective action on issues impacting member nations.
