LabWeaver is a new framework for agentic data analysis that addresses the reliability issues of systems like large language models. These models often fail to consider the experimental context, like disease domain and protocol, when analyzing biological data. Existing systems organize context around individual users and projects, but research is actually organized around laboratories where projects share experimental context. This means that context learned in one project remains unavailable to related projects.

To tackle this, LabWeaver proposes a laboratory-organized architecture with three tiers: laboratory, user, and project. This design allows experimental context to be distilled into laboratory memory and skills. These are then shared across users and projects after a human-gated review process. The researchers tested this framework by analyzing a synovial sarcoma single-cell RNA-seq dataset in two sessions. In one session, the laboratory memory and skills were unavailable, while in the other, they were present.

The context-free session resulted in the loss of a fusion reporter during read alignment and misannotation of tumor cells. However, in the context-enabled session, the model successfully recovered reporter expression and resolved five fusion-anchored tumor cell states. This demonstrates that experimental context significantly improves agentic data analysis.

By organizing context around laboratories instead of individual users and projects, LabWeaver ensures that valuable context is shared across related projects, enhancing the reliability of agentic systems in biological data analysis.
