Key Motorway Closed Due to Fog

The M3 Motorway, stretching from Faizpur to Jaranwala, was shut down due to dense fog, according to Syed Imran Ahmed, a spokesperson for the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) Central Region. Ahmed emphasized that the closure was taken to safeguard the public. He warned that driving in fog poses significant dangers and advised people to avoid unnecessary journeys.

The authorities recommend traveling during the day when visibility is better. From 10 am to 6 pm, the Motorway Police state that conditions are relatively safer for travel. In response to the fog, the NHMP issued safety guidelines for drivers who must use the road. These recommendations include maintaining a low speed, keeping a safe distance from the vehicle in front, staying in one's lane, and avoiding unnecessary overtaking or sudden braking.

Drivers are advised to use fog lights and ensure all lights, including headlights, tail lights, and wipers, are functioning correctly. If visibility becomes severely limited in heavy fog, Ahmed advised stopping at a safe location.

Fog-induced closures are a common occurrence on Punjab's motorways during winter. Last year, five major highways were closed due to fog, while parts of the M2, M3, and M4 also faced closures in December 2024.
