Kerajaan bayar balik RM20.27 bilion lebihan cukai pendapatan setakat 31 Okt

Malaysia's government has repaid a staggering RM20.271 billion in excess income tax up to October 31, according to Finance Minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan. In the Dewan Rakyat today, the minister revealed that RM6.84 billion was returned to 3.4 million individual taxpayers, while RM13.036 billion was refunded to 206,234 corporate taxpayers, including micro, small and medium enterprises (PMKS).

The government prioritized returning excess tax to individuals and PMKS, he said, during the passage of the Financial Management Ordinance (FMO) legislation. Consequently, the number of taxpayers with excess tax has dropped nearly half to around 550,000 by October 31, 2026, compared to over one million in October 2025. The government is committed to ensuring that the repayment process is fully executed promptly to improve tax administration efficiency and protect taxpayers' rights, aligning with the Madani fiscal reform agenda, he added during an appearance in Parliament.

The Inland Revenue Department recorded over RM14 billion in uncollected tax (WTD) as of September 30, largely due to a lack of awareness and knowledge among the public about WTD and their right to claim, the minister explained. "Other contributing factors include failure to track ownership of assets due to outdated or incorrect contact information, as well as insufficient information about WTD, particularly when owners are unaware of any outstanding debt from entities or companies," he said.

To streamline the repayment process for rightful owners, the government introduced initiatives such as the eGumis portal, allowing citizens to check and claim WTD online. Meanwhile, the Inland Revenue Authority is also strengthening efforts to enhance public awareness and service delivery. "As of October 30, 176 WTD clearance programs have been conducted nationwide, compared to 89 in the previous year," the minister reported.
