Ipoh police bust investment scam call centre targeting victims in Germany, five arrested

IPOH, November 3 — Perak police have apprehended five Chinese men accused of operating an investment scam call centre, targeting victims in Germany, during a raid on a house in Anjung Bercham Utama. Perak Police Chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin disclosed the arrests were made around 6:30 pm following intelligence about the syndicate's activities.

According to initial investigations, police believe the group ran a call centre operation to execute non-existent online investment scams. The syndicate allegedly operated from the premises since September, targeting unsuspecting victims in Germany. They utilized WhatsApp and local internet access, employing profile pictures of attractive women to randomly contact their victims.

The suspects promised high returns from the investment schemes allegedly based in Germany and coerced the victims into making multiple payments. Police seized five computers, ten mobile phones, and four routers, estimated to be worth approximately RM25,000. All suspects, aged between 26 and 43, have been remanded for four days from last Saturday to aid investigations under Section 420, Section 120B of the Penal Code, and Section 6(1)© of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
