Germany Increases Student Visas for Pakistanis

Germany has raised the quantity of student visas it grants to applicants from Pakistan, as the demand for tertiary education in the European nation persists, according to German Ambassador Dr. Ina Lepel. Addressing reporters at the National Press Club's (NPC) international outreach program, "Meet the Press," on Monday, Lepel acknowledged that the growing number of applications occasionally leads to delays in processing.

She mentioned that the German mission is striving to streamline processes and boost efficiency. The ambassador highlighted Germany as a favored destination for Pakistani students due to its high-quality universities, research opportunities, and inclusive academic atmosphere. Lepel also advocated for strengthened economic and trade ties between Pakistan and Germany, noting that despite longstanding connections, bilateral trade had not achieved the anticipated growth.

"I was stationed in Pakistan in 2017 and have returned as ambassador, but unfortunately, there hasn't been substantial progress in bilateral trade volume," she stated. Lepel emphasized that both countries possess significant economic potential and urged them to broaden trade, investment, and commercial cooperation for mutual benefit.

Addressing regional developments, Lepel commended Pakistan for its efforts to de-escalate tensions, especially during the recent clash between the United States and Iran. She praised Islamabad's diplomatic efforts to foster dialogue and avert further instability.
