Diwali 2026: When and where to celebrate in the UAE

Diwali 2026, one of the biggest festivals in South Asia, will be celebrated in the UAE from November 6 to 10. The festival, also known as Deepawali, symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. It usually falls in early autumn, coinciding with the new moon.

On the first day, Dhanteras, Hindus clean their homes and workplaces, and many consider it auspicious to make major purchases. Jewellery, especially gold, is bought to appease goddess Lakshmi, who is believed to bring prosperity. Homes are decorated with lights and lanterns, and doors are adorned with rangoli, colorful designs made from flower petals, colored rice, or sand.

The second day, Chhoti Diwali, is marked by the exchange of Indian sweets and gifts among friends and family. The third or main day of Diwali is when celebrants wear new clothes, light fireworks, and participate in parties and special events. The fourth day is mostly ritualistic, coinciding with the end of the harvest season. The last day, Bhai Dooj, celebrates the bond between sisters and brothers, with sisters feeding their brothers gifts in return.

In the UAE, Diwali is celebrated lavishly, with neighbourhoods lit up and many events organized. Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment will host several events, including a themed drone show at the Global Village. Shops and restaurants will offer special deals and promotions. In Abu Dhabi, the Baps Hindu Mandir will host religious ceremonies, cultural performances, and family activities. Noor: Festival of Lights will be held at Al Seef, featuring live music, dance performances, and colourful processions.
