Care for veteran actors while they’re alive, Actors Guild urges at Grace Nortey’s funeral
The guild said Nortey's generation built the foundation of Ghana's acting industry at a time of few opportunities and little recognition.
The Ghana Actors Guild has urged the film and television industry to care for its veteran actors while they are still alive, as evidenced by their tribute to the late Grace Nortey. Nortey, who passed away in August, was a pioneer in Ghanaian cinema whose talent and resilience laid the foundation for many actors who followed. She worked through a period when the industry offered few opportunities and little recognition.
The guild highlighted some of her notable productions, including The Other Side of the Rich, Escape to Love, Matters of the Heart, and Sinking Sands. Nortey received several accolades for her contributions to Ghanaian cinema, including a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Black Star International Film Festival in 2018 and a Legendary Award for Outstanding Contributions at the Ghana Actors Entertainment Awards in 2020.
The guild's tribute underscores the importance of supporting and appreciating the contributions of veteran actors in the industry.
