Beyond Sustainability Week: How Doha Festival City is making sustainability part of everyday life

Doha's Doha Film Festival (DFF) has unveiled a broad lineup of free community screenings for the 2026 edition. The festival, hosted by the Doha Film Institute (DFI), aims to celebrate movie history and make cinema accessible to everyone.

From November 19 to 27, the community program will showcase a variety of films, including animated tales, important world cinema works, and screenings adapted for audiences with diverse needs. Fatma Hassan Alremaihi, CEO of DFI and Director of DFF, highlighted cinema's capacity to unite people and create a sense of belonging.

A key feature of this year's program is the launch of DFF Classics, a new initiative that restores and screens significant films for modern audiences. The inaugural DFF Classics will present Gillo Pontecorvo's The Battle of Algiers (1966), awarded the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival, and Shadi Abdel Salam's The Night of Counting the Years (1969), a landmark Egyptian and Arab cinema work.

Cinema Under the Stars returns with free outdoor screenings in MIA Park, featuring animated movies exploring friendship, courage, belonging, and imagination. The Inclusive Screening of Hasan Hadi's acclaimed film The President's Cake will be accompanied by audio description, sign-language interpretation, and enhanced subtitles.

A special Geekdom Screening will present Hope, a South Korean film about a remote village facing a mysterious threat. The Doha Film Festival 2026 is supported by Katara, Media City Qatar, the Film Committee, and Visit Qatar, bringing together filmmakers, audiences, and industry professionals to celebrate storytelling and significant voices in international cinema.
