A viral video circulating on social media claims that autism did not exist in Vietnam until Bill Gates introduced a vaccination program there. Dr Anthony Phan, the doctor making the claim, states that autism cases in Vietnam have risen by more than 300% since the introduction of vaccinations. However, health experts and fact-checkers have debunked this claim, insisting that there is no link between vaccines and autism in Vietnam or any other country.
The first national survey in Vietnam found that about 1 in 132 children have autism, a rate comparable to other middle-income countries. The Gates Foundation has also denied the claim, stating that it is false.
