Pune: MSEDCL Directs Officials Not To Restore Disconnected Power Connections Until Full Dues Are Paid

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has instructed its officials not to restore electricity connections disconnected due to unpaid bills until consumers pay their entire outstanding amount along with the current bill. Executive Director (Power Purchase) Dinesh Agarwal made the directive during surprise inspections at Vishrantwadi and Wadia sub-divisions in Pune on October 31.

Agarwal visited the areas to verify if electricity supply to defaulting consumers had been restored despite pending dues. During the inspection at Wadia sub-division, he examined the connections of two defaulters, Fisthouse Hospitality and Prabhavati Namdev Pingle, who owed ₹7.69 lakh and ₹5.44 lakh in electricity bills, respectively. Their combined arrears totaled ₹13.13 lakh.

The inspection revealed that Fisthouse Hospitality was paying its outstanding bills in installments, which led to the accumulation of arrears. Agarwal directed officials to ensure that such consumers do not have their electricity connections restored until they pay the complete outstanding amount and the current bill.

He also ordered officials to accelerate recovery operations and concentrate on collecting both pending dues and current electricity bills. Agarwal emphasized that electricity bill recovery should not be restricted to office-level operations and that officials must visit the field to directly inspect the status of defaulting consumers.

He stressed the importance of regular follow-ups to encourage consumers to pay their electricity bills on time and stressed that MSEDCL must provide services to consumers while emphasizing the responsibility of timely bill payment on the consumers. Agarwal highlighted that disconnecting electricity supply as per rules before arrears accumulate would prevent unpaid dues from being deducted from consumers' security deposits.
