Nashik: FDA Intensifies Crackdown On Food Adulteration Ahead Of Festive Season

As demand for sweet treats, traditional snacks, oils, and dairy products surges during Nashik's festive season, the local Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is ramping up its efforts to curb food adulteration. Authorities are on high alert, keeping a watchful eye on sweet shops, hotels, bakeries, food manufacturers, and retail stores to ensure the availability of safe and high-quality food.

In a recent enforcement drive, the Nashik FDA uncovered a shipment of suspect refined soybean oil and spices at Pankaj Oil Mill in Bhagur and Tigaria industrial area, respectively. The seized edible oil and spices, valued at roughly ₹5.47 lakh and ₹11 lakh, were found to be of substandard quality. The FDA also suspended the registration of a sweet manufacturing unit in Patilnagar after discovering live worms in custard apple pulp and shut down a bakery on Wadala Road in Bharat Nagar for operating unhygienically.

Food manufacturers, distributors, and retailers are required to adhere to standards set by the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, including proper labeling with manufacturing and expiry dates, ingredient details, and the FSSAI license number. The Nashik FDA is closely monitoring establishments that operate under unhygienic conditions and urges consumers to exercise caution when purchasing food items.

Suspected adulteration or quality issues can be reported through the Maharashtra FDA's official complaint portal. The department intends to continue inspections and enforcement activities throughout the festive season to protect public health.
