Doha, Qatar - The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) have collaborated to launch the "Youth Hackathon for Justice and Innovation" program. This pioneering initiative aims to merge AI with the modern rule of law, tapping into the potential of young legal talent across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to develop practical, innovative solutions to the justice sector's challenges.
The hackathon is part of the MoJ's efforts to enhance the rule of law, promote responsible digital transformation, and boost legal and technical capabilities in line with its 2025-2030 strategic plan. Targeting young legal professionals from Qatar and GCC nations, the program will run from March 21-28, 2027 in Doha. It will offer specialized training, expert mentorship, and collaborative work across multidisciplinary legal teams.
Dr. Jassim Saleh Al Kuwari, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice for State Lawsuits Affairs and Chairman of the Youth Hackathon, emphasized the ministry's strategic priority on youth empowerment and its commitment to digital transformation in the justice sector. Al Kuwari highlighted that the program aligns with the MoJ's 2025-2030 strategy, particularly its focus on training, rehabilitation, and national capacity-building.
Michelle Giles-McDonough, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of UNITAR, underscored the program's role in attracting talent from GCC member states and investing in human capital and regional cooperation. She stressed that empowering young people to turn their ideas into responsible, practical solutions will help cultivate a new generation equipped to tackle justice sector challenges and shape the future of justice systems.
Applications for the Youth Hackathon are open until December 31, 2026.
