Real Madrid defeated Racing Santander 3-0 on Sunday during the 11th round of La Liga. According to Punch and Punch Nigeria, Kylian Mbappe scored a penalty during the match, helping the team move past a tumultuous week. This followed a Monday where the French forward narrowly lost the Ballon d'Or to Harry Kane and issued an apology following a social media controversy.
Channel News Asia reported that Chinese state broadcaster CCTV did not broadcast the match after Mbappe caused a furore in China by referring to former leader Mao Zedong as a dictator in a viral video. While Mbappe, Real Madrid, and La Liga all issued apologies for his remarks, China's foreign ministry stated it took the apology seriously.
El Pais noted that Real Madrid manager José Mourinho faced the match without Valverde, who was injured, or Vinicius, who was serving a suspension. The report also highlighted an early opportunity for Real Madrid when Arda Güler missed a chance from the penalty spot.
