How I Built a Telegram Bot That Downloads YouTube Music & Videos (Up to 2 GB) And How yt-dlp Actually Bypasses YouTube's Protection

Live Bot: @songsuperzxbot Source Code: github.com/chandan0000001/music-video_telegrambot HD Demo: Watch on Streamable I built a Telegram bot that downloads music and videos from YouTube and I want to walk you through exactly how it works, including the part that most tutorials skip: how yt-dlp actually gets past YouTube's stream protection. I built a Telegram bot that downloads music and videos…

I constructed a Telegram bot capable of downloading music and videos from YouTube, up to 2 GB in size. This article outlines the intricate process behind the bot's functionality, particularly focusing on how it bypasses YouTube's stream protection using yt-dlp. The bot can be accessed via @songsuperzxbot on Telegram, with its source code available at github.com/chandan0000001/music-video_telegrambot.

Most Telegram music bots face common issues such as temporary non-functionality due to YouTube changes, Telegram's 50 MB file limit, and performance limitations when multiple users access the bot simultaneously. To address these issues, I designed my bot to bypass these limitations. My bot utilizes yt-dlp, which is adept at extracting YouTube streams despite YouTube's obfuscated stream URLs and download speed throttling.

YouTube streams are not directly accessible through a straightforward URL. They are obfuscated by YouTube's signature cipher and an 'n' parameter that limits download speeds. yt-dlp overcomes these obstacles by extracting and reverse-engineering YouTube's JavaScript functions that manage the signature and 'n' parameter, thereby unlocking full download speeds. In my bot, yt-dlp operates with eight parallel fragment downloads to maximize speed, leveraging a cookies.txt file to manage age-restricted content.

Following the download, the files undergo processing through an FFmpeg pipeline. For audio files, FFmpeg extracts and converts the audio to MP3 format at a specified bitrate. For video files, FFmpeg employs Intel VAAPI hardware acceleration for efficient encoding, enhancing performance significantly. If hardware acceleration is unavailable, the bot automatically defaults to software encoding.

Telegram's 50 MB file size restriction is circumvented by sending files directly via the standard Bot API when under 48 MB. Files exceeding this limit are sent using the native MTProto client, Telethon, which supports up to 2 GB file transfers. For files over 48 MB, if MTProto is not applicable, the bot splits the file into lossless 44 MB segments using FFmpeg, ensuring no quality loss and maintaining the original file integrity.

The bot's database management is handled through SQLite in Write-Ahead Logging (WAL) mode, chosen for its efficient handling of simultaneous downloads. SQLite PRAGMA settings ensure atomic crash recovery and prevent blocking between readers and writers. This setup allows the bot to track user interactions, download history, and aggregated statistics in real time.

Security is paramount, and I implemented measures to prevent Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) attacks. The bot validates incoming URLs, blocking any that do not conform to the expected YouTube URL structure or originate from private IP ranges. Additionally, filenames are sanitized to ensure they do not contain malicious path traversal sequences, enhancing the bot's overall security posture.

Backup Verification in 2026: Exit Code 0 Is Not a Backup

Backup Verification in 2026: Exit Code 0 Is Not a Backup A story made the rounds in a DevOps community recently, and it should make anyone who owns a cron job uncomfortable.

  • Backup script ran without issue, displayed exit code 0 nightly
  • Engineer discovered script not performing core function for 3 weeks
  • Four levels of backup verification critical to ensure data recovery

Churn Management Starts Before Anyone Cancels

Open most churn dashboards and you are reading a register of the already gone. The line goes up, someone asks why, and the team scrolls through exit surveys in which former customers politely explain…

  • Billing issues often precede churn, not post-cancellation data.
  • Predictive signals from failed payments and card expirations are reliable.
  • Early-warning checklist should monitor first failures, card expirations, and soft declines.
