Fans renew Funke Akindele-Toyin Abraham rivalry ahead of December releases

Fans of Nigerian actresses Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham have reignited their rivalry as both actresses prepare to release new films in December. The ongoing debate over their promotional strategies, industry relationships and box-office ambitions has resurfaced, with supporters scrutinizing each other's moves. The actresses' upcoming films, The Four: No One Fights Alone by Akindele and Bestie by Abraham, have added to the competition, as fans compare their promotional campaigns.

One point of contention involved the actresses' use of custom Adire fabrics to promote their films. Akindele and her team wore matching blue Adire at a birthday celebration, while Abraham showcased similar fabric in pink-and-orange at a movie premiere. Fans accused each other of copying the trend, with Abraham's designer stating that the fabric had been planned earlier.

Fans also compared their digital platform strategies, drawing parallels between Akindele's partnership with Facebook and Abraham's TikTok event for her film, Oversabi Aunty.

The rivalry was further fueled by a leaked voice note reportedly involving Abraham and a TikTok fan, which criticized Akindele. Fans debated the authenticity and context of the recording, with some defending Abraham and others questioning its validity. Additionally, actress Foluke Daramola defended Abraham, sparking reactions and accusations of taking sides.
