Barca hammer Alaves to retain Liga top spot
BARCELONA: Raphinha and Lamine Yamal each struck twice as Barcelona thrashed Alaves 6-1 on Saturday to reclaim their La Liga lead and get back on track after two damaging defeats.
Barcelona bounced back from two recent losses to reclaim their La Liga lead with a dominant 6-1 victory over Alaves at Camp Nou. Raphinha and Lamine Yamal each scored twice, while Fermin Lopez and Anthony Gordon added two more goals. Earlier on Saturday, Atletico Madrid secured a 2-0 win over Levante, but Barcelona retook the top spot by outclassing the Basque team.
The champions honored 69 victims of a recent train crash in a minute's silence before the match. Despite defensive injuries, Barcelona's young talent shone, leading coach Hansi Flick to praise the attacking players' form. The win sets up a crucial Champions League clash against Aston Villa and a La Liga showdown with Atletico Madrid next Sunday.
