Rauf will retain the seat for the PRN Melaka 16 on November 14. He was accompanied by Selangor BN Chief Megat Zulkarnain Omardin, who will in turn be succeeded by Johan Abd Aziz. BN supporters began gathering in the party's campaign office in Tanjung Bidara as early as 8 am before heading to the candidate selection center. The atmosphere around the candidate selection center was lively with the presence of Pakatan Harapan supporters, who gathered to support their candidate, Yunazri Mustamiri.

Yunazri was also accompanied by several PKR leaders, including PKR Deputy President Chang Lih Kang and Sarawak PKR Deputy President Chiew Choon Man. PH supporters also chanted for reform while BN supporters chanted the blue wave. Rauf was the first candidate to enter the candidate selection center at 9 am, followed by Yunazri at 9.06 am. At the previous PRN Melaka, Rauf won the Tanjung Bidara seat with a majority of 364 votes.
