The scariest movies streaming on Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, and Prime Video to watch this Halloween

Looking for a bone-chilling horror movie to watch this Halloween? As a horror aficionado, I've sifted through countless titles on the major streaming platforms and narrowed down the best picks across Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, and Prime Video. Whether you're a seasoned horror fan or new to the genre, I've got plenty of spine-tingling recommendations to make your movie night unforgettable.

Sinners (HBO Max) If you're new to the horror scene, Sinners is the perfect gateway drug. Director Ryan Coogler's vampire thriller feels more like a haunting church service than a typical horror film. Set in 1930s Mississippi, two twin brothers, played by Michael B. Jordan, return home to build a juke joint for their abandoned sawmill. However, their opening night is interrupted by a gang of vampires led by Jack O'Connell's menacing Remmick. Sinners is available to stream on HBO Max.

The Substance (Hulu) Demi Moore delivers a career-saving performance in this satirical horror thriller. Elisabeth Sparkle, a washed-up Hollywood star in her 50s, turns to a dangerous black-market drug that gives her a youthful, irresistible version of herself. However, the substance comes with a strict list of rules, and breaking them can lead to gruesome consequences.

The Substance, directed by Coralie Fargeat, is an Oscar-nominated body-horror film that earned five nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. Hulu has The Substance available for streaming.

The Witch (Prime Video) Before Robert Eggers' Werwulf hits theaters, you must experience The Witch, the horror film that launched his career. This 2015 chilling folk horror tale puts Eggers on the map with its slow pacing, old-timey dialogue, and haunting atmosphere. Set in 17th-century New England, the film follows patriarch William Ineson and his family as they're exiled from their settlement and forced to start over on a remote farm.

When their son disappears, eldest daughter Thomasin Anya Taylor-Joy becomes the prime suspect due to her rumored witchcraft. The Witch is a must-watch for any horror fan, available now on Prime Video.
