Ricky Stenhouse Jr.'s race recap in the 2026 Chase race at Talladega

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. narrowly missed securing a win in Sunday's YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, ultimately finishing in third place following a heated final-lap duel. Starting 24th, the driver from Hyak Motorsports led nine laps, positioning himself for another superspeedway triumph. Stenhouse displayed remarkable strength in the race's closing moments, frequently trading the lead with Joey Logano.

However, an extensive collision on Lap 183 disrupted the race, sending it into overtime. Undeterred, Stenhouse remained in contention during the final restart and seemed to have the necessary speed to claim Victory Lane. On the final lap, Stenhouse made the decision to defend against William Byron's approach at the finish, creating an opportunity for Kyle Larson to surge ahead and win by a mere 0.041 seconds.

Although Stenhouse missed out on the victory, his performance once again showcased his ability to excel at NASCAR's drafting tracks. The third-place finish also had a notable impact on his points total, propelling him up one position to 28th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings with 515 points. Stenhouse was unable to secure the championship Chase, but he is determined to capitalize on this momentum during the final two races at Martinsville and Homestead-Miami.
