National Courier Day: Govt pledges reform as RM6.9b courier sector takes spotlight

Shah Alam, October 31 — Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil inaugurated National Courier Day 2026 (HKN2026) on October 31, acknowledging the RM6.9 billion industry contribution to Malaysia's digital economy. Held at the Selangor International Trade Centre, the event was organized by the Malaysian Express Carriers Association (AMEC) with support from the Communications Ministry and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

The theme, "Sustaining the Industry, Strengthening Trust," emphasized regulatory reform, digital transformation, and strengthening industry trust.

MCMC affirmed commitment to regulatory reform through proposed amendments to the Postal Services Act 2012 (Act 741) and the upcoming Postal Services Regulations (Postal Service Security and Prohibited Postal Articles) 2026 (PSR2026). These measures aim to bolster security, industry accountability, and consumer protection alongside e-commerce growth.

Additionally, Parcel Shield, an initiative between the Postal Forum and MCMC, aims to curb parcel delivery fraud by encouraging information sharing and disseminating fraud alerts.

HKN2026 also marked the signing of a memorandum of collaboration for a last-mile delivery pilot, assessing infrastructure optimization and reduced operational overlap. Digital transformation efforts include the National Address System (NAS) for improved address accuracy and PAKEJ Map, a tool providing access to over 47,000 postal and courier service points nationwide.

The event recognized industry personnel through the Best Courier Worker award, Safe Driving Challenge, and the MyCSP Courier Safety Passport programme, highlighting safety and service quality.
