Mumbai Local Train Update: Cloth Entangled In OHE Wire At Sewri Disrupts Harbour Line Services; Commuters Walk On Tracks

Mumbai's Up Harbour line experienced brief service interruptions on Saturday morning due to a piece of cloth entangled in an overhead equipment wire at Sewri station. The incident, which occurred around 9:44 am on Platform 2, caused delays and bunching of trains on the affected section. Railway staff promptly removed the obstruction, restoring train operations by 10:13 am.

However, commuters were forced to walk on the tracks as video footage circulating on social media shows several passengers disembarking from a halted local train and making their way towards the station. The disruption was inconvenient for passengers during the peak morning hours, causing delays on the Harbor line. This incident follows a major disruption the previous day on the Central Railway network, which affected around 80 trains and led to 60 to 90 minute delays.

The Monday disruption was caused by technical failures including a fire in the signalling relay room at Kanjurmarg station and a fault in the overhead equipment between Mulund and Thane. The event resulted in 80 train cancellations and three reported deaths from passengers stranded inside stationary trains or walking along the tracks to reach nearby stations.
